Police in Marin County are investigating a spate of bank robberies and trying to determine whether the same person is responsible for all of them.

The first happened at about 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Chase Bank on Ignacio Boulevard in Novato. The robber claimed to have a gun but did not display one, and fled before taking any money, the police department said.

Police said the robber’s age is in the 40s or 50s but the race and gender are unclear. The robber wore a black jacket, a silver and black Raiders hat, a blue medical-type mask, blue jeans and dark shoes.

About an hour later, a robber struck at the Wells Fargo branch at Bon Air Center in Greenbrae. The robber absconded with cash and did not display a weapon, said Central Marin police Officer Joel

Heaps. He said the robber’s age was described as the 30s, but investigators are still working on a fuller description.

On Thursday, a robber struck shortly before 1 p.m. at the Wells Fargo branch on Las Gallinas Avenue in Terra Linda, said San Rafael police Lt. Dan Fink. The robber did not display a weapon and fled with cash.

Fink said the robber was described as light-skinned and possibly in the 30s, but investigators were still working on more details.

The Marin agencies and the FBI are also investigating potential links to two bank robberies in Sonoma County, one at a Bank of America branch in Santa Rosa on Monday, the other at a Chase branch in Rohnert Park at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Witnesses with potential information for investigators can call Crime Stoppers at 1- 800-2228477.
