Marin youth advocate and comedian Michael Pritchard will kick off a three-month series of free online health events next week to support students during the coronavirus pandemic.

Pritchard, a frequent moderator and keynote speaker, will give the first of his four talks at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 28 on the topic of “community through unity.” During the course of the series, he and other speakers will address depression, suicide, stress-reduction techniques, social media management, drug addiction and LGBTQ issues.

“As you’re aware, we’re in unprecedented times, where mental health has never been more important,” Redwood High School student Elsa Clinton said in a video introducing the events. “This virtual series will offer engaging talks on mental health and wellness.”

Group organized the series in collaboration with the Marin County Office of Education, among other local agencies and nonprofit organizations.

Group member Ella Green of Redwood High School said the sessions on digital media will be offered through the nonprofit Common Sense Media.

“We can all find more balance in our digital lives,” Green said. “Common Sense Media will walk us through an exploration of our own online media identity, where our voices, choices and acceptances align.”

Other participating nonprofits include the Spahr Center, RxSafeMarin, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and Pure Edge.

All the talks will run from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sessions will be in English with Spanish translation.

Registration and additional details are at the Marin County Office of Education website at marinschools.org.
