City considers policy for bees, chickens
Novato officials are reviewing whether to regulate backyard beekeeping and chicken coops within city limits after requests from residents.
The City Council has scheduled a discussion on the issue for its meeting starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday. More information is at bit.ly/3qSddvO.
The municipal code allows for 12 or fewer hens in areas zoned for agriculture and lower density homes. Thirteen or more could be allowed with the approval of a conditional use permit from the city. Roosters are prohibited.
The city code has no provisions on beekeeping.
