-

On Thursday, April 15, 2021 Mervin “Mike” Hill, devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away at his home at the age of 89. Mike was born on March 9, 1932 in the old California Park neighborhood of San Rafael, when cows still dotted the hillsides. He attended local schools and graduated from San Rafael High School. He took great pride in spending his entire life in San Rafael. He only departed briefly during the Korean War, when he went to flight school at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona, graduating in 1953 as an officer. From 1954 through 1958, he piloted a 4-engine KC-97G in the vital role of air refueling. Returning home, he married his loving wife, Susan, started a family and began a long career with PG&E.

After retirement, Mike continued working alongside his wife Susan, supporting her business for over 30 years, but always made time for family camping trips several times a year. He religiously cheered for his Bay Area sports teams and proudly flew the team flags above the house. He lavished special attention on the family miniature poodle, “Zippy,” and more recently, the very patient Shih Tzu, “Zola.”

Mike is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Susan; daughter Diana Nolan (Stephen); son Brian (Kristie); and six grandchildren: Brianne, Braelyn, Kaeden, Keagan, Bryleigh and Kylen, who miss him very much.

No funeral services are planned. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to one of Mike’s favorite charities, such as: WildCare in Marin, California State Parks Foundation, or Save the Bay.
