Oracle Park will return to normal on June 25

- By Kerry Crowley

The Giants have officially set a date for opening Oracle Park at full capacity.

After the state of California announced last week that large sporting venues will be able to operate at full capacity and without social distancing protocols beginning June 15, the Giants said Wednesday Oracle Park will return to normal beginning June 25.

The first series without restrictions at Oracle Park this season is the Bay Bridge Series between the Giants and A’s, which will take place from June 25-27.

Within the last week, the Dodgers announced Dodger Stadium will return to full capacity on June 15 while the Padres and Angels will each begin operating their home ballparks at full ca

pacity on June 17. The A’s have not yet made a formal announcement when they will drop social distancing protocols at the Coliseum.

The Giants have already announced three promotions for the weekend as the club will host a fireworks night on Friday the 25th, give out 15,000 Mike Yastrzemski bobbleheads on Saturday the 26th and hand out Kid’s Caps to the first 5,000 fans age 14 and under on Sunday the 27th.

“California’s reopening on June 15 is an important milestone in our state’s recovery from the challenging and, for many, lifechanging effects of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Giants president and CEO Larry Baer said in a statement. “We have been working closely with the San Francisco Department of Health to safely implement these reopening guidelines at Oracle Park and we are excited to welcome even more fans back to Oracle Park next month.”

Home games played between May 31-June 20 will still operate under previous social distancing and fully vaccinated section guidelines.

Season-ticket holders who have been required to sit in different sections this season due to protocols will be able to return to their normal seats when Oracle Park reopens at full capacity.

Tickets for all regularseason home games from June 25-October 3 will go on sale on Thursday, May 27 at 2 p.m.

GIANTS ROUT DIAMONDBACKS ON TUESDAY » Ina disappointing and underwhelming 72-hour stretch this weekend, the Giants lost the grip they’d held for more than three weeks on first place in the National League West and slipped all the way down to third in the division.

A sweep against the Dodgers was clearly a gut punch, but the Giants have proven during the first two months of the season that they’re a tough team to knock to the ground.

With a series-opening 8-0 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday at Chase Field, the 29-19 Giants stood right back up and showed why they still own one of the best records in the major leagues.

Starter Kevin Gausman tossed five shutout innings, Brandon Crawford gave the team an early lead with a bases-clearing double and Evan Longoria enjoyed his best game of the year to snap the club’s longest losing streak of the young season at three games.

Nearly every Giants veteran contributed in a meaningful way to Tuesday’s win.

After Gausman exited, three lefties — Jarlín García, José Álvarez and Sam Selman — helped complete the team’s eighth shutout win of the season.
