Martha Cogswell Auld

-

Martha Cogswell Auld, 73, of Tiburon, passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2021 at her home in Tiburon, CA after a long and courageous battle with breast and ovarian cancer. As a loving and cherished wife, mother, and grandmother, she is survived by her husband, Bruce Auld (married 44 years); her children, Ashley Auld-Fisher and Allison

Auld-Hill; two grandchildren; and brother John Cogswell and sister Mariana Weinhold.

Martha was born on August 9, 1947 in Kansas to Marjorie and John Cogswell and grew up on the family ranch and later in Goodland, KS. She was a horse lover and joined her dad in his daily trips to the ranch to ride her horse.

Martha graduated from high school at the National Cathedral School in Washington, DC, then from

Colorado College with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. She earned her Master’s degree at UC Berkeley in Computer Science and then spent three decades (from 1970s1990s) working with early innovations in database for Pacific Bell and related management requirements.

After winning a battle with breast cancer in the late 90s, she retired and became an active member and supporter of the To Celebrate Life Breast Cancer Foundation. She participated as the Foundation’s board treasurer, established its database system, and managed its reservations team for their annual fundraiser, Stepping Out. She was passionate about this cause and touched the lives of hundreds of men and women going through their own battles with cancer. During her efforts to be free of ovarian cancer, she displayed uncommon courage in her willingness to participate in medical trials.

In her spare time, Martha made beautiful works of art out of fabric and yarn. She loved to knit, sew, quilt, and needlepoint, and left behind a trove of beautiful hand-crafted treasures; from quilts and clothes to totes and Christmas stockings. She gifted these things generously amongst her family and friends over the course of her lifetime. She was also a talented chef and loved to travel around the world, taking cooking classes, immersing herself in learning about different types of cuisine and cultures, and making many friends along the way.

Her Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Belvedere/Tiburon on September 4, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Please RSVP via email to: marthaauldcelebration@ gmail.com.
