Redwood girls lacrosse outlasts Marin Academy in OT

Megan Minturn scored in sudden-death overtime to lift the Redwood High girls lacrosse team to a 1211 victory against Marin Academy Saturday.

The Giants (7-0) roared out to a 7-3 lead at the half then added to that, going ahead 9-3 in the third quarter. Marin Academy scored the next eight goals to surge in front 11-9 before Redwood rallied to force overtime.

Redwood goalie Emma Turkington made a crucial save late in the game. Grace Minturn paced Redwood with four goals. Ella Klingelhof­er paced MA with five goals.

• Archie Williams needed a pair of overtimes but emerged with a 9-8 win against San Rafael Friday. Jasmine Luria scored goals for the Bulldogs while Francesco San Diego scored twice.

Prep softball

Megan Murphy pitched four innings, striking out six and allowing one run to help San Rafael pick up a 6-1 victory against Cardinal Newman Friday.

Sophia Everett went 2 for 3 at the plate, including a home run, for the Bulldogs (4-3). Riley Cottrell went 2 for 3 with a pair of runs scored and Thomara Drummer had two RBIs.

Prep baseball

Andrew Henderson struck out six in a complete-game effort to lead San Marin to a 3-1 win against Branson Friday.

John Holtz (double, RBI), Josh Martin (two hits, two runs), Garrett Abell (two hits) and Vinny Ciolino (sac fly) helped San Marin pick up the win.

The two teams also wrapped up a suspended game from Tuesday, with the Mustangs coming out on top, 9-8. Abell drove in Riley DeSilva with the game-winning run. Holtz picked up the save. Anthony Scheppler had three hits, three steals and scored twice.
