Marin Catholic’s ace claims tennis title

Marin Catholic’s Nickawn Namdar lived up to his billing as the MCAL singles tournament’s top seed, taking down Archie Williams’ Jake Magnusson in the final at College of Marin on Wednesday.

Namdar won the match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, to secure an automatic berth in the North Coast Section Division II singles tournament, which begins Friday at Santa Rosa High. The seeding meeting takes place on Thursday.

The NCS team tournament­s begin Monday with that seeding meeting on

Saturday.

Tam’s Carson Harrell finished third, winning the consolatio­n final against Redwood’s Liam Carpenter.

Redwood’s doubles duo of Charlie Boyden and Jackson Bramlette took the doubles title, defeated the third seeded team — Branson’s Tommy Higgins and Leighton Frasier.

Prep softball

Sophia Everett hit a pair of doubles and a home run to lead San Rafael to a 6-0 win against Tam in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Everett drove in four runs, hitting a two-run double in the second inning and a two-run homer in the sixth. No. 3 San Rafael faces No. 2 Marin Catholic at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Archie Williams High in the MCAL semifinals.

Tam takes the No. 4 seed and travels to Larkspur at the same time to take on top-seeded Redwood.

Boys volleyball

Jamie Clahan had nine assists, three digs, two aces and two aces as Tam advance to the quarterfin­als following a 25-14, 2523, 25-13 road win against Jesse Bethel in Vallejo on

Tuesday night.

Yaseen Ashraf added 10 digs while Luke Pielert had six digs, four kills and three aces for the Redtailed Hawks. No. 4 Tam hosts a D-II quarterfin­al against No. 5 San Ramon Valley at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Archie Williams remained alive in D-III after a 3-1 victory against Cardinal Newman on Tuesday. The No. 3 Peregrine Falcons host No. 11 Piedmont at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Marin Catholic and Terra Linda were both eliminated from the D-II playoffs, by Hercules and Moreau Catholic, respective­ly.
