League and school records were set as a quartet of Redwood High boys swimmers and a pair of Tam swimmers enjoyed big days at the North Coast Section championship meet in Concord on Saturday.

Despite sending only four swimmers, the Redwood boys placed third as a team. Gavin Green set three school records on the day and Max Matthews qualified for the State Meet next weekend in four different events.

Tam's Marre Gattnar and Nicky Glenn both qualified for state in their two individual events with Gattnar setting a pair of league and school records in the process.

Matthews started his big day as part of Redwood's 200-yard medley relay team that placed second with a time of 1 minute, 33.93 seconds. Matthews was joined by Green, Harry Wait and Nicholas Scruton.

Matthews took second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:50.92 then took seventh in the 100 back with a time of 50.35.

Redwood then capped the day with a third-place performance in the 400 free relay to qualify for state in that event as well and set a school record.

Gattnar continued to improve on his own school records to the point where he claimed a pair of league records as well on Saturday. Gattnar led a strong Marin contingent in the 50 free, placing second overall with a time of 20.30 seconds. His prelim time of 20.28 on Thursday was .04 seconds faster than the league record set by Tam's Andrew Latimer in 2009.

Glenn placed sixth in the 50 free in 20.69 seconds, followed by Green in seventh in 21.00 flat.

flat. All three times were good enough to earn automatic qualification for state. Green's mark is a new Redwood school record.

Gattnar placed third in his other event, the 100 back, with a time of 49.08 seconds. San Marin's Kenneth Castro-Abrams set the previous league record of 49.44 in 2013.

Novato's Bryden Thielenhaus also qualified for state, placing third in the 100 butterfly in 49.39 seconds.

On the girls side, Marin Academy sprinter Ines Lovato was the only Marin swimmer to guarantee herself a spot at state. Lovato placed second in the 50 free (23.38) and fourth in the 100 free (51.33).

MA's Sydney Brakebill posted a consideration time in the 50 free (23.91) and Redwood's Catherine Watrous did the same in the 100 free (51.62).

Redwood had two relay teams that posted consideration times on the girls side with Watrous, Mia Solomon, Kallen Wank and Emily Fee in the 200 medley (1:47.97) then Solomon, Wank, Watrous and Gwen Kallmeyer in the 200 free (1:38.04).
