San Domenico's Ballard shines at conference meet

San Domenico School's Hayley Ballard set a pair of school records en route to being named athlete of the meet at the Bay Counties League West track and field championsh­ips on Friday.

Ballard won the 1,600 meters and the 3,200 with times of 5 minutes, 12.81 seconds and 11:11.10, respective­ly.

Kezian Dunn took first place in the shot put with a school record of 44 feet, 3.5 inches.

Marin Academy's Maya Wadhwani took first place in the girls high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 10 inches.

Teammate Esme Morrison (4 feet, 6 inches) was third and the Wildcats' Juliet Reichardt was fifth (4 feet, 5 inches).

The Wildcats' girls 4×100 relay team of Ever Bogosian, Esme Morrison, Wadhwani and Callie Zimmerman placed seventh in 56.01 seconds. Zimmerman posted a personal-best time of 18.33 seconds to finish seventh in the 100 hurdles.

College baseball

After ending Ohlone's 36game winning streak on Friday, the College of Marin baseball team entered Saturday with two chances to stun the world and take down the top seed in the state playoffs.

The Mariners pushed Ohlone to the limit but ultimately were unable to finish the job, falling 11-9 in Game 2 and 5-4 in 12 innings in the third and decisive game.

Boys tennis

Archie Williams' Jake Magnusson and Terra Linda's Ryan Hoang both took third place, in the Division I and D-II brackets, respective­ly, at the North Coast Section singles tournament­s.

Magnusson lost 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinals to the eventual winner, Vintage's Lucas Bollinger. Magnusson defeated Miramonte's

Nishad Elias in straight sets to take third.

Hoang fell to HeadRoyce's Michael Evans in the semifinals before bouncing back to defeat Arcata's Nick Bosch in the third-place match.

Redwood's doubles team of Liam Carpenter and Charlie Boyden lost in the D-I semifinals.

• Redwood and Tam were selected to the NCS Division I team tournament. The MCAL champions Giants are the No. 6seed and host No. 11 Maria Carrillo at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tam, seeded seventh, hosts No. 1 Monte Vista at 3:30p.m. on Tuesday. The D-II bracket features a pair of Marin teams facing each other as No. 14San Domenico faces No. 3 Branson at College of Marin.

Badminton

San Domenico's Eric Liu and Martin Peng claimed first place in boys doubles at the Bay Counties League badminton tournament Friday to secure a berth in the North Coast Section tournament.

The Panthers, who finished in first place in the league with an 11-1 record, are sending 10 players to the NCS Division II tournament on May 14 at Fremont's Washington High.

Cici Lin placed second in girls singles and the pair of Scoot Wang and Becky Xiang took second. In girls doubles in the BCL tournament. Stanley Ma took third in boys singles and the Panthers' Kevin Yang and Ivan Ban were third in boys doubles. San Domenico's Dylan Song and Wendy Feng finished fourth in mixed doubles at the BCL tournament.

All 10 San Domenico players advancing to NCS earned all-league honors.

Ace

Paul Herzog of San Anselmo had a hole in one on Saturday at Meadow Club. Herzog used a 4 Iron from 150 yards away in a heavy wind on the eighth hole.
