Deal ironed out for new city manager

The incoming city manager will receive starting annual compensati­on of $265,687, according to a contract prepared for the City Council.

Robert Zadnik, the public works director, is in line to take the city manager position after Jim Middleton retires on June 16. The City Council was scheduled to approve the appointmen­t and the contract at its meeting last night.

The contract includes a first-year salary of $195,000 plus benefits. The salary will increase to $212,004 after one year. Middleton's annual salary is about $213,800.
