Marin Catholic advances to MCAL baseball title game

Kody Perry allowed two hits while pitching a complete-game shutout to lead the top-seeded Marin Catholic baseball team to a 3-0 victory against Archie Williams in the MCAL semifinals on Tuesday.

Perry struck out eight hitters and took a onehitter into the seventh inning. He helped his own cause by knocking in two of MC's runs while batting cleanup. MC (19-3) advances to the title game against Redwood at 7 p.m. Friday at Albert Park in San Rafael.

Leadoff hitter Jayden Lee went 3 for 3 and scored a run. Carl Schmidt had a hit and drove in a run for MC while Jake Galetti had a hit and scored a run.

MC scored two runs in the first inning and another in the second to secure an early 3-0 lead. Archie Williams started Cal Amborn went 5.2 innings, allowing eight hits and three runs — only one of them earned. Amborn also had one of the two hits for Archie Williams (13-13).

Boys tennis

Liam Carpenter and Charlie Boyden combined to drop one game while sweeping the top two singles matches, leading No. 6 Redwood to a 7-0 victory against No. 11 Maria Carrillo in the first round of the North Coast Section Division I playoffs.

Hayden Gerber and Noah Ong Bamola also picked up straight set wins at Nos.3 and 4, respective­ly. The Giants advance to the quarterfin­als on the road against No. 3 Amador Valley at 5 p.m. Thursday.

• Seventh-seeded Tam saw its season come to an end following a 4-3 loss against No. 10 Monte Vista in the first round of the D-I playoffs on Tuesday.

• Branson won all seven matches during its allMarin matchup against San Domenico in the first round of the D-II playoffs. The No. 3 Bulls host No. 6 Acalanes in the quarterfin­als at College of Marin at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

• Marin Academy bowed out in the first round of the D-II playoffs following a 5-2 loss against Arcata. The loss prevented the Wildcats from a quarterfin­al battle against No. 2 University on Thursday. The Red Devils — who won 7-0 on Tuesday — feature Tiburon resident Zac Ashtiani on their roster. Ashtiani won the NCS D-II doubles tournament with partner Ozan Ozturk last week.

Girls lacrosse

Marin Academy was victorious in an allMarin NCS D-II semifinal against Tam, picking up a 10-5 victory at Marin Catholic on Tuesday. The Wildcats (13-4) advance to Thursday's championsh­ip game and await the winner of the late game between No. 1 Campolindo and No. 5 San Marin.

Danica Blix and Elsa Schutt scored two goals each for MA. Ella Klingelhof­er won four draw controls and Schutt won three draw controls — something coach Cori Conner identified as one of her team's keys to the victory.

• Top-seeded Redwood continued to roll through the D-I playoffs following an 18-4 victory over No. 5 Davis on Tuesday. The Giants (19-3) move to the final and await the winner of the late game between No. 2 San Ramon Valley and No. 6 Carondelet.

Boys lacrosse

Third-seeded Tam continued its march through the D-I playoffs, securing an 11-4 victory against No. 7 Campolindo to advance to Thursday's championsh­ip game. The Red-tailed Hawks (15-7) are set to face top-seeded Justin-Siena at 7 p.m. in Napa. The Braves picked up a forfeit victory over No. 5 Bishop O'Dowd in the semifinals.

• Redwood saw its postseason run come to an end as California pulled out a 7-6 victory in overtime of the D-I semifinals in Larkspur on Tuesday.
