Council allots $2K for `gun buyback'

The Town Council will contribute $2,000 to support a countywide “gun buyback” event.

The council voiced its support for the program at its May 4 meeting. The donation will be approved as part of the 2022-23 budget.

The event is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 4 at the Marin County Sheriff's Office headquarte­rs at 1600 Los Gamos Drive in San Rafael.

Organizers will offer $100 for handguns, rifles and shotguns and $200 for assault weapons. The guns must be functional.

The limit is three guns per seller. Ammunition also will be accepted. Sellers must drive up with the guns in the trunk.
