Gas leak disrupts downtown traffic

-

A gas leak forced traffic closures in downtown San Rafael on Thursday.

A construction crew was in the area of Mission Avenue and B Street at about noon, said San Rafael police Sgt. Justin Graham. The police department initially announced the closure of Mission Avenue between C and Court streets and a partial closure on B Street. Later, police said the closure was limited to eastbound Mission

Avenue between B and C streets.

A Pacific Gas and Electric Co. crew stopped the flow of gas at about 12:50 p.m., according to Deanna Contreras, a utility spokesperson. She said the leak happened when a crew hit a 2-inch plastic distribution line while drilling. It was not a PG&E crew, she said.

The leak interrupted service for about 25 residential accounts, Contreras said.
