Tam swimmer Gattnar has two top-five finishes at State

-

Tam High's Marre Gattnar led the Marin contingent at the State swimming championships on Saturday in Clovis, making a pair of A Finals and breaking his own league record in the 100-yard backstroke.

Gattnar, who set the league mark in the 100 back last week with a time of 49.08 seconds at the North Coast Section Championships, managed to take almost another second off his time at State.

Gattnar finished in 48.30 seconds in a dead heat for second place with Loyola's Max Cahill. Harvard Westlake's Ronald Dalmacio won the event in 48.08.

Gattnar also claimed Marin's second best finish of the day, placing fifth in the 50 free in 20.39 — just a bit slower then the league mark he set last weekend.

Gattnar was joined in the 50 free A Final by Tam teammate Nicky Glenn, who finished in eighth place in 20.47. Redwood's Gavin Green also had a strong showing in that event, making the B Final and placing 16th in 21.04.

Novato's Bryden Thielenhaus was the other Marin swimmer to qualify for an A Final, finishing eighth in the 100 butterfly (49.13). Marin Academy's Ines Lovato finished 7th in prelims for the girls 50 free but did not race on Saturday.

Glenn also made the B Final in the 100 free, taking 12th place in 46.06. A pair of relay teams also competed in B Finals, with Redwood's 200 medley relay of Max Matthews, Green, Harry Wait and Nichols Scruton placing 11th (1:33.24). Archie Williams' 200 free relay team of Micah

Sher, Brady Long, Vincent Krilanovich and Jacob Dixon placed 15th (1:26.38).
