TL teacher deserves support, compassion

I am writing in regard to the recent article about Terra Linda High School teacher Teagen Leonhart (“San Rafael teacher suspected of intoxication in class,” April 29).

I know her personally and believe her to be a good person. I know she loves her students and, while no one condones her alleged actions, I hope that she gets fair consideration. We must remember the incredible stress that all teachers have to bear, especially struggling through the COVID-19 pandemic.

The alleged behaviors were a lapse in judgment on her part, indeed, but I'm hoping the district and the community will consider her long tenure, as well as her track record, and provide support and compassion instead of condemnation and vilification.
