Measure A supports parks for future generations

-

Born and raised in the Bay Area, I am a public school educator who chose Fairfax to raise my young boys. One of the reasons we live in Marin County is because of all of the beautiful open space and county parks. I really appreciate these low-cost family activities that are open to all.

I support Measure A, the proposed extension of a sales tax supporting parks, open space and agriculture, because it is an integral part of our parks' funding.

We particularly love visiting West Marin. We have spoken to some of the rangers whose positions are funded directly by Measure A.

Without an adequate crew for maintenance, the bathrooms and trails would not be the same.

We also love visiting Stafford Lake and its bike park. My children, who are first graders, are having a field trip to end the school year there. From personal experience, I can say that having a great ranger crew to help is a key part of keeping this fun park safe. I love seeing more people outside biking and hiking since the pandemic began, but we need park staffers to keep up with the rising demand and its impacts.

My boys and I also love

Roy's Redwoods Preserve. It's a great place to cool off and explore nature under the impressive redwoods.

Measure A helps our county fund important restoration projects like Kent Island and the North End project in Bolinas. I can only hope that the county will be as beautiful for my sons as it was for me to visit as a child. But, a key part of that is maintaining public access and adapting to sea level rise.

Support our hardworking local parks staff who maintain our exceptional local parks by voting yes on Measure A for current and future generations.
