MC girls await foe for title game

- Women’s lacrosse

Marin Catholic punched its ticket to the MCAL finals with Wednesday’s 51-37 victory over Redwood. Wildcats senior Gracyn Lovette showed her postseason form with a 19-point effort, while Izzy McFadden added 14 points and Madie Dayton tallied 11 points. The MCAL final is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at Terra Linda High, where the top-seeded Wildcats (21-5, 16-0 MCAL) will face the winner of the other semifinal, either Branson or San Marin.

Dominican University of California is running hard and fast to start the women’s lacrosse program’s inaugural season after taking down USC, Oregon State and Arizona during a three-day round-robin tournament in Santa Barbara, February 3-5. The Penguins (4-0) now prepare for their home opener, February 18, against San Jose State.

Newkirk, Taylor Pieri, Brooke Vafi and Olivia Johnson. San Marin High grad Gillie Mason scored her first goal of the season during an 18-2 win over Oregon State. Dominican wrapped up the swing with a 17-1 victory over Arizona.

Men’s basketball

Marin Catholic grad Noah Deitch finished with six points and three rebounds as Lake Forest lost a close Midwest Conference matchup with Lawrence, 72-69, on Wednesday. With three regularsea­son games left to play, the Foresters (10-12, 7-6 MWC) are in a tight battle for fourth place in the conference standings. Lake Forest is scheduled to host conference leader Illinois College on Saturday.
