Win lifts playoff hopes for San Domenico boys soccer

-

San Domenico ended the regular season with a 2-0 win against Stuart Hall to give the Panthers some momentum heading toward the North Coast Section playoffs. The NCS seeding meeting is scheduled for Sunday.

San Domenico sophomore Enzo Zamorano scored both goals on free kicks. The win extends the Panthers' unbeaten streak to four matches, the best in the program's history, according to coach Tristan Bowen. San Domenico (64-4, 4-3-3 league) finished fourth in the Bay Counties League West standings.

• Diego Felix and Malcolm Zalayet scored as Marin Academy completed a perfect run through the Bay Counties League West with a 2-0 win against University on Friday.

Diego Doyle and Parker Mascott had the assist for the Wildcats (15-1-1, 10-0-0 BCL West). The Wildcats are set to compete in next week's North Coast Section Division III playoffs. The seeding meeting takes place on Sunday.

College baseball

D'Andre Gaines' big day at the plate for the Mariners went for naught as College of Marin fell to host Santa Rosa Junior College, 136, on Friday. Gaines was 4 of 5, with two doubles and a triple, and scored three runs. Lucas Scharfer added a two-run homer.

The teams were close through four innings, until the Bear Cubs put up a three-run fifth inning for a 7-4 lead. A four-run eighth inning sealed the win for Santa Rosa.

The Mariners (3-5) look to get back to their winning ways with a home game on Tuesday against Diablo Valley College.

College softball

Dominican University of California dropped a pair of one-run decisions 1-0 and 2-1 Friday afternoon to Sonoma State at Seawolf Softball Field.

The Penguins' Shelby Keltner led the way from the circle striking out eight in seven innings of work, while Jayla Cadena and Taylor Rodriguez combined for the other 5 1/3 innings of work allowing no earned runs between the pair of freshman pitchers. Keltner added the lone hit of the first game for Dominican while Caitlyn Perales went 1-for-3 with a run in game two.

Dominican (2-4) will have a week off as it prepares for its next game Wednesday, Feb. 22, against Cal State East Bay in a doubleheader at Pioneer Softball Field.
