MC’s Batdorf powers team to NCS girls soccer win

Kate Batdorf scored goals in both halves to lead the Marin Catholic High girls soccer team to a 4-0 home win against No. 13 HeadRoyce in the first round of the North Coast Section Division IV playoffs on Wednesday.

Batdorf scored her first goal to put the Wildcats (96-5) ahead 2-0 in the first half then capped the scoring as MC took a 4-0 lead in the second half. Sienna White and Alina Franchetti provided the assists, respective­ly.

White also scored the opener on an assist by Franchetti. Caroline McCarty set up the third goal, which was scored by Franchetti.

The No. 4 Wildcats host No. 5 Lick-Wilmerding at 2 p.m. Saturday.

• Mia Nettz scored on an assist by Abigail Brackett as No. 10 San Marin (7-9-1) dragged No. 7 Saint Mary’s to overtime before falling 2-1 in the first round of the NCS D-IV playoffs Wednesday.

Boys soccer

Redwood saw its season come to end following a 3-2 home loss to No. 13 Castro Valley in the first round of the NCS D-I playoffs on Wednesday. The No. 4 Giants (14-4-3) won the D-II title last season and as a result were pulled up into the D-I bracket this year.

• San Domenico missed some point-blank chances and conceded twice from set pieces in a 2-0 home loss to No. 10 Mount Diablo in the first round of the NCS D-IV playoffs. The No. 7 Panthers (6-5-4) saw their program-record four-game unbeaten streak come to end.

• No. 11 San Marin (4-145) also saw its season come to an end after getting eliminated from the NCS D-IV playoffs with a 5-0 loss to No. 6 Lick-Wilmerding.

Boys tennis

Marin Catholic’s Tate Gilpin topped Novato’s Loic Foisy 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to highlight the Wildcats’ 7-0 victory over the Hornets on Wednesday. Andrew Gorczycki, Jack Millar and Qas Vidyarthi completed Marin Catholic’s sweep of the singles ladder.

• San Marin’s Cole Shotz held off San Rafael’s Roman Krumtey 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles as the Mustangs swept the host Bulldogs 7-0. San Marin’s Jessi Chi, Arseniy Karolev and Miles Reyes also won in singles play.

• Branson’s Jeffrey Huang defeated Terra Linda’s Luca Ratra 6-2, 6-2 at the top of the singles ladder as the Bulls swept the Trojans 7-0 Wednesday. Tommie Higgins, Pete Stovell and Chase Hoeveler also earned singles wins.

Boys golf

The Giants’ Arjun Aujila fired a 36 for low medalist honors Wednesday as Redwood defeated San Marin 202-224 at Indian Valley. The Giants’ Jack Mount,

Brody Root and Dominic Orlando were all tied at 41. Meanwhile Darius Kellogg led the Mustangs with a 42, follow by Noah Duncan and Logan Vuong, both at 43.

• The sixth man on the golf team doesn’t often count in the team score in dual matches, but Jay Nagpal proved to be the key to the Branson School’s victory over Tam on Tuesday. With both teams ties at 199 after nine holes at Peacock Gap, the tiebreaker went to the scores for the No. 6 players on each squad. Nagpal shot a very solid 46, three strokes better than his opponent from Tam. The Bulls’ Charlie Farrell was the low medalist for the day with a 1-under 35.

College of Marin’s rally effort fell short in Tuesday’s 6-5 loss to visiting Diablo Valley. Marin trailed 6-2 after Diablo Valley scored three runs in the top of the seventh, but the Mariners got one run back in the bottom of the inning.

The Mariners got a big lift in the bottom of the eighth inning when Lucas Schaefer launched a solo home run. Later in the same inning, with Jake Ferguson on base, Cam Appling hit an RBI triple to close the gap to just one run. Diablo Valley reliever Cameron Barger came in to take the power out of the Mariners’ bats and earn the save. Marin (36) is scheduled to host Lassen on Thursday.
