Oliver’s first win carries Novato baseball

Novato defeated Pinole Valley 2-1 behind a strong relief effort from Julian Oliver who earned his first career win. Oliver was also 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI, while Nate Dito recorded a sacrifice fly and Jacob Rabb and Andy Gates scored for the Hornets (20). Dominic Scafani got the save on the mound.

• Branson baseball kept pace early, scoring four times in the first two innings, but was unable to stay in contact with JustinSien­a during a 15-5 loss on Wednesday. William Ashley went 3 for 3 with a walk and a pair of RBIs to pace the Bulls. Liam Parrot had a pair of hits and two RBIs. The Braves scored three runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good and tacked on six runs in the sixth to invoke the mercy rule.

• Marin Catholic is off to a strong start as it prepares for Friday’s home game against Northgate. The Wildcats (2-0) opened the season Saturday with a 4-1 victory at Petaluma, and defeated defeated Acalanes 10-5 on Tuesday. Jayden Lee was 2 for 4 with a home run for the Wildcats. College softball

Dominican University scored seven times in the first inning to take the second game 9-7, salvaging a doublehead­er split against Cal State East Bay on Wednesday.

Melissa Garcia and Celeste Salas paced the Penguins (3-6) with three hits apiece in Game 2. Lauren Lapinid had two hits, scored twice and drove in two runs.

The Penguins dropped the first game 2-1 in 10 innings despite a nine-inning, 10-strikeout game from pitcher Shelby Keltner.

Girls basketball

San Domenico ran into its nemesis again Tuesday night, and again came up short as University ended the Panthers’ NCS title hopes. The second-seeded Red Devils defeated the third-seeded Panthers 4827 in the Division V semifinals, the fourth time in four meetings this season University has gotten the better of San Domenico.

Summer Jenkins posted a team-high 10 points for San Domenico, which kept close with University through the first half. The Red Devils went on a 31-13 tear in the second half to lock up the victory.

Boys basketball

The Panthers played a competitiv­e 48 minutes, but came up short, 55-45, as No. 3 San Domenico fell to No. 2 Head Royce in the NCS Division V semifinals Tuesday. San Domenico’s early lead eroded in the second quarter, and the Panthers found themselves one step behind Head Royce for most of the rest of the game. Gytis Gervickas led the Panthers with 11 points and Drew Morehouse added 10 points.

Golf

San Rafael’s Ken Breuner used a 7-Iron to hit a holein-one on the 11th hole at Richmond Country Club earlier this week.

Bocce

The Marin Bocce Foundation

anticipate­s it will be able to offer a few openings in its popular night leagues at Albert Park, once the current resurfacin­g project on the courts is completed.

The facility, located adjacent to Albert Park in downtown San Rafael, typically has about 1,200 league players active in 160 teams in its daytime and evening leagues combined. The federation is the largest club of its kind on the West Coast with the most league players.

The nine-week spring season will begin in late March. The cost is $495 per evening league team per season; the per-person cost depends of the size of the team. Anyone age 18 or older is eligible to register.

There a few openings for individual­s in the senior daytime leagues on existing teams as well. The weekday sessions begin at 10 a.m.
