Tam pitching duo shuts down AWHS

Prep baseball

Tyler Buxton and Henry Simpson combined for the shutout as Tam High defeated Archie Williams, 16-0, in the Hawks' MCAL opener Wednesday in Mill Valley. Kaiden Dossa, Colin Day and Miles Gentler each had two hits for Tam. The rivalry continues Friday at Archie Williams.

• Marin Catholic and Novato set off most of their fireworks early on as the Wildcats pounded out a 16-10 victory over the host Hornets on a wet Tuesday. A seven-run second inning highlighte­d the day for the Wildcats (44), who added five runs in the the top of the third fora 13-0 lead.

Novato (2-2) breathed life into the game with eight runs in the bottom of the third inning, but never got closer.

Marin Catholic senior Spencer Wheels doubled twice during a 3-for-5 day at the plate, with two RBI. Senior Carl Schmidt and juniors Jayden Lee and Jake Lyall also doubled. Lee and Lyall each drove in three runs, while senior Emmet George was 3-for-5 with two RBI.

• San Marin carved out a 10-1 home win over San Rafael on Tuesday, behind strong efforts on the mound from Erik Bach and Jack Goodwin. Bach threw four innings of no-hit ball with three walks and four strikeouts. Goodwin struck out three batters and allowed two hits in relief.

Mustangs senior Hayden Devol was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and senior Ryan Burke and junior Jake Simpson each had a single and an RBI. Sophomore Joey Cipollina doubled and drove in two runs for San Marin (2-1).

Griffin Madden, Quinn Madden and CJ Harter each singled for the Bulldogs (12).

Boys golf

Branson School senior Charlie Farrell fired an evenpar 36 at Indian Valley Golf Course as the Bulls defeated San Marin 197-222 Wednesday. San Marin's Noah Duncan shot a 38.

• Marin Catholic edged Redwood 208-210 on Tuesday as the Wildcats' Truman Ashforth beat the damp conditions for a 2-over par 37 at the Meadow Club for low medalist honors. The Giants' Arjun Aujla fired a 39.

Boys tennis

Jesse Chi and Arseniy Korolev earned wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respective­ly, to lead San Marin past crosstown rival Novato 6-1 on Wednesday. Owen Merritt and Rory Pierce pulled out a tough tiebreaker win at No. 2 doubles, winning 10-8 in the third set.

Indie Stanic picked up the lone win for the Hornets at No. 3 singles.

Women's basketball

Redwood High alumnus Kylie Horstmeyer is among four West Coast Conference All-Academic Team selections to represent the University of San Diego program. Horstmeyer, who is majoring in internatio­nal relations, earned a 3.68 GPA, while averaging 5.3 points per game across 29 appearance­s this season.

Girls lacrosse

Tamalpais defeated East Bay power Campolindo, 178, in the Red-tailed Hawks' season opener on Wednesday. The Hawks' balanced attack featured four goals from Madi Smith, Graciela Hale and Rowie Scobie. Annie Shine had two goals. Carson Cann, Sarah Cormier and Quinlin Dayton chipped in one goal each.

Boys lacrosse

Marin Catholic kicked off its season with a 7-6 victory over Menlo on Wednesday.

• San Rafael opened its season on a down note with a 13-6 loss at Sonoma Valley on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are scheduled to host Cardinal Newman on March 7.
