Tam duo powers Hawks past rival Falcons

Pletcher, Cummings lead rally against AWHS softball

Zoe Pletcher and Lauren Cummings led the way offensivel­y as Tam rallied for a 7-3 victory against Archie Wiliams on Wednesday in MCAL softball action. Pletcher had three hits from the leadoff spot, driving in two runs and scoring once. Cummings had one hit, walked twice and drove in three runs.

Tam (2-2, 2-0) scored three runs in the fourth inning to tie the game then scored twice in the sixth and seventh innings to pull away late. Freshman pitcher Ava Lee struck out 10, allowed six hits and one earned run in seven innings.

Paige Murphy had two hits to pace the Peregrine Falcons (0-4, 0-1) while Kennedy Dunsing had one hit and an RBI.

• Addison Dunn had two hits, drove in three and scored twice to lead Redwood to a 13-1 win against Terra Linda (0-2, 0-1) in five innings Wednesday. The Giants (2-2-1, 1-0) scored three runs in the first and second inning then tacked on six more in the bottom of the fourth. Maddie Sofnas had two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs. Hailey

Carlton had three hits. Kaela Sparler and Maizy Crawford had two hits each. Georgia Pineda struck out six and allowed one hit in four innings of work.

Prep baseball

Cohen Garcia launched two home runs and Evan Black also cleared the fences as Novato defeated Branson, 10-3, Wednesday. The Hornets broke things open with six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. With the score tied 3-3, Garcia hit a three-run homer, followed by Black’s big hit to get Novato’s offense rolling. Garcia also homered in the sixth inning.

Garcia pitched three innings in relief, allowing four hits and one run while striking out two batters and walking zero, to pick up the win.

Morris Jacoby took the loss for Branson Bulls Varsity. Jacoby allowed three hits and six runs over onethird of an inning, striking out one and walking zero.

Kaden Gustafson went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Bulls.

• Redwood rallied past San Marin, 4-2, as the Giants did all their scoring in a big sixth inning Wednesday.

Senior Josh Martin was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI for the Mustangs, who also got two hits from senior Riley Desilva. Stats for Redwood were not immediatel­y available at press time.

Boys golf

Despite the somewhat wet and muddy conditions left by the recent storms across Marin, Sean Madden shot an even-par 35 to lead Terra Linda past Novato 206-286 on Wednesday. Freshman Kaden Martin fired a 40. Novato’s Liam Everyone shot a 44.

• Ben Friedman was the medalist with a 38 at Indian Valley Golf Course on Wednesday, guiding Tam to a 206-231 win against San Marin. Hayden Thill and Paxton Miller had matching 41s for the Red-tailed Hawks (4-1). Darius Kellog and Jordan Priolo both shot 41s for the Mustangs.

• Marin Academy rolled past Stuart Hall, 183-225 at the par 36 Presidio Golf Club on Wednesday. The Wildcats’ Charle Hansen took medalist honors with a 41, followed by Connor Dickinson at 46. Marin Academy improves its record

to 2-0.

Boys tennis

Hayden Gerber and Jack Tayler steeled themselves for a hard-fought 7-5, 6-2 doubles win as Redwood swept Terra Linda, 7-0, Wednesday. Chris Lee, Mateo Curillos, Liam Martinez and Theo Mazziota all earned two-set singles victories.

• Leighton Fraser and Ishwar Jayaraman, who occasional­ly team up in doubles play, picked up singles wins and Branson swept doubles play as the Bulls defeated Archie Williams, 5-2, Wednesday at College of Marin. Archie Williams’ Henry Pratt rallied to defeat the Bulls’ Pete Stovell, 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (7) at No. 1 singles and Henry Gamble won at No. 4 singles.

Girls lacrosse

Abby Bracket’s fierce play led San Marin past Casa Grande, 17-12, as she scored 10 goals in Tuesday’s non-league game. The Mustangs (6-0) are scheduled to open MCAL play on Thursday against a visiting San Rafael squad at 6 p.m.

Boys lacrosse

Terra Linda was in control early and held on for a 9-8 victory over Stuart Hall on Tuesday. Trojans senior Luca Garvey Miller helped the Trojans control the ball by winning 14 of 20 faceoffs and scoring the team’s first goal. Senior attackman Liam Wood and sophomore Cole Greene scored three goals each. Sophomore goalie Patrick Knopf had 18 saves.

Prep swimming

Rosie Lucchesi and Nicolas Arinduque posted solid individual efforts to help carry Terra Linda past San. Marin in both the girls and boys contests. The Trojans won the girls meet, 124-42, and the boys meet 126-50, over the Mustangs on Tuesday.

Lucchesi won the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststro­ke. The Terra Linda girls were backed by victories from senior Catherin Fahrner (200 IM), freshman Jojo Fetterman (100 free), sophomore Emily Erickson (500 free) and senior Kira Rodriguez (100 back). The Trojans also won all three relay events.

Arinduque won both the 200 IM and 100 breast, with other Terra Linda wins coming from sophomore Soren Jessen (200 free), junior Jackson Conway (50 free), junior David Finney (100 free) and freshman Cameron Hellar (500 free). The Terra Linda boys also won all three relay events.

College softball

Dominican University was shut out in both ends of a doublehead­er Wednesday in Lodi as the Penguins fell 5-0 and 8-0 to Cal Poly Humboldt.

Shelby Keltner reached base safely three times and struck out six from the circle but the Penguins (7-8) were unable to generate the runs they needed to keep pace with the Lumberjack­s (8-12) which finished with 24 hits and 13 runs on the day.

Men’s basketball

Branson School grad Miles Keeffe is keeping his postseason title hopes alive with Vanderbilt University. The No. 2 Commodores defeated Yale, 71-62, in Tuesday’s NIT opening round. Keeffe, a freshman at Vanderbilt, did not get off the bench. The Commodores (21-14) are scheduled to take on No. 3 Michigan (18-15) in Thursday’s second round.

Keeffe was an All-MCAL first team selection as a junior and senior with Branson. where younger brother Finn received an MCAL honorable mention this season.

Novato Babe Ruth

Registrati­ons and tryouts for the upcoming season have been extended with tryouts set to be held at noon on March 26 at San Marin High. The league offers a proven path for skill developmen­t on a regulation-size field to prepare for high school baseball. The league is open to players throughout Marin.
