Resident of Corte Madera
Our sweet mom passed away peacefully on August 3, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and love.
Marilyn Joyce Bradley was born in Santa Barbara to Phillip Holden Bradley and Mariam Schaefer Bradley on March 16, 1929. She spent her teen years in Long Beach, being raised by her mother and grandmother. Showing a talent for art, Mom attended the (then) California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco, where she met and married our dad, Jack Sutherland.
They soon had three children, Duncan, Bonnie, and Kenneth, and left SF for Corte Madera in 1959. Mom made the most of our bountiful fruit trees and berry bushes, preserving and baking to our hearts’ delight. Wonderful mother that she was, she also frequently tossed us outside to go play with the neighborhood kids.
Mom’s beautiful voice graced the choir at Redwoods Presbyterian Church for over fifty years. She loved her church family. In 1966, Mom became the Art Department Secretary at College of Marin, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. She was also the “behind the scenes” organizer for Boy Scout Troop 24, the Prince Charles Pipe Band, and the local Girl Scout troop.
Mom - “Ammie” to her grands and great-grands proudly celebrated our growing family, and happily provided a cookie, a toy, and a comfy lap for a story or a snuggle. She leaves behind Duncan, Bonnie (Rich), Ken (Sue); grandchildren Erin (Greg), Meagan, Juliana (Brady), Nina, John (Trena), and Katie (Miguel); soon-to-be eleven great-grandchildren; her sister Phyllis, nieces Michele and Andrea, and great-nephew TJ. We all loved her dearly. The family wishes to thank Rocky, Ruby, and Millie, her devoted and unforgettable caregivers.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 25, 2:00 pm at Redwoods Presbyterian Church, 110 Magnolia Avenue, Larkspur, CA. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to Redwoods Presbyterian at the address above or www.redwoodspres.org.
