Marin City health center set to open new building
The Marin City Health and Wellness Center has unveiled a new $3.8 million building at 100 Phillips Drive.
The 23,629-square-foot center replaces a 17-year-old clinic at the Marin City Community Services District building on Drake Avenue.
The construction on the center, which occupies a former child care site, was completed early this month. Organizers marked the completion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday evening.
“This is the first modern, comprehensive health facility in Marin City in 80 years,” said Harold Wallace,
the chief executive officer. “It's an upgrade in quality care for the community.”
The building has five medical examination rooms, four dental offices, a 360-degree dental X-ray panel, a heating, ventilation and cooling system and other amenities. The site will double potential patient capacity in Marin City and is expected to serve 8,000 patients a year, Wallace said.
The site's services will include adult primary care, pediatric primary care, behavioral health, substance abuse recovery, health education, women's health, dental care, podiatry and case management. The federally qualified, not-forprofit medical center serves the insured
and uninsured, as well as patients on Medi-Cal and Medicare.
The management expects to open the site for patient care on Oct. 2. It will have about 70 fulltime employees, compared to 25 at the former clinic.
The site is geared to provide expanded care for Black residents who historically have had less access to services, said Terrie Harris Green, a board member for the Marin City Community Services District.
“It's going to provide an avenue for more folks to get medical care and also address the specialized needs that people have,” she said. “The issue of health is critical here
