Fun, fun, fun
Five don't-miss events coming up in Marin
There's plenty of good times to be had coming up in Marin. From a fantastical play surrounding the backstory of Peter Pan to the new Sausalito Boat Show to a storytelling event, here are some events that you might not want to miss.
Whimsical play
Get to know Peter Pan, Mrs. Darling, Tinker Bell and Capt. Hook in a whole new way in “Peter and the Starcatcher,” writer and former stage actor Rick Elice's humorous and fantastical backstory of the iconic characters. Presented by the College of Marin's drama program, the show follows the adventures of two ships that set sail for the kingdom of Rundoon — one of them, the Neverland, captained by the sinister Bill Slank, carries three orphan boys: Prentiss, Ted and a nameless orphan known only as Boy.
Directed by Elena Wright, known for her work with Marin Shakes, with music direction by Nick Brown, the play opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the College of Marin's James Dunn Theatre at the Performing Arts Building at 835 College Ave. in Kentfield. Performances continue at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 7, 13 and 14; 2 p.m. Oct. 1, 8 and 15. Admission is free.

Boatload of fun
Have fun both on and off land at the Sausalito Boat Show from Oct. 13 through 15 at the Clipper Yacht Harbor in Sausalito.
“This inaugural event is designed to be a celebration of maritime excellence and Sausalito's local culture — food, live music and art,” show manager Mitch Perkins writes in a press release. “We are thrilled to see the city of Sausalito, the Sausalito Economic Development Advisory Committee and the broader San Francisco Bay Area maritime community coming together to support this new event.”
The three days of nautical fun will include a showcase of new yachts, sailboats, powerboats, brokerage boats and
gear; educational seminars; opportunities to get on the water; food and drinks, live entertainment by the Fog City Swampers, Juke Joint Band, the Millionaires, the Cruz Boys and Matt Bolton; and crafts and other activities for children.
“The maritime community in Marin County is made up of a very diverse and interesting group of characters, and I hope that people who attend the Sausalito Boat Show get a sense of the fun and possibility that is unique to boating,” Curtis Havel, harbormaster of Clipper Yacht Harbor, told the IJ this month.
