Michael Golden - June 19, 2023

- Cotati, CA

Michael M. Golden passed away peacefully on June 19, 2023, at the age of 89. On this day, the world lost a great man, brilliant mind and loving husband, father, and granddaddy. Michael was born in San Francisco and graduated from Lowell High School, Pomona College, and Stanford Law School (Order of the Coif).

After graduating from college, Michael was sent by the Army to Germany to serve as an officer in the Counterintelligence Corps. Michael served for two years, then returned to California to attend Stanford Law School. As a Law school graduate, he clerked for Judge Ben C. Duniway on the Court of Appeals, then practiced law with Heller, Ehrman, White & McCauliffe. Michael finished off his professional career as a beloved professor of law at Golden Gate University.

In his retirement, Michael, a legal scholar, served as Procedure Editor for the “California Tort Reporter” and Discovery Editor for the “Federal Litigator”. In addition, he co-edited “California Torts”, a six-volume treatise. Over the years, Michael proved his loyalty and integrity to his family, friends, and colleagues.

Although Michael had a quiet, thoughtful manner, he had a keen sense of humor that could break up the room, unexpectedly. He was a loving family man, who enjoyed family vacations, watching his Childrens’ sporting events and BBQing (regardless of the results)! Michael was a proud grandfather, who adored watching his grandsons mature into adulthood.

Nothing gave Michael greater pleasure than being with his wife of 50 years, children, and grandchildren. Michael brought great joy to our family. He will be sorely missed

He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Suzy, his children Gregory (Anne), Gabriel (Michelle), Katie (Dan) and Rachel (Stephen) and grandchildren Max, Jack, Scott, and Cooper. May he rest in peace.
