Battle By The Bay goes to MA girls water polo

Gabby Reichley scored goals in bunches at one end of the pool while Caroline Starrett prevented goals at the other end, combining to lead the Marin Academy girls water polo team to a tournament title at the Battle By The Bay on Saturday.

MA (14-1) went 4-0 at the tournament, getting a trio of clutch goals from Reichley in the fourth quarter of the championsh­ip game to secure a 10-8 victory against Alameda. The Wildcats led 5-2 at the half but Alameda rallied to tie the game at 8-8 in the fourth quarter.

MA also picked up wins against Piedmont and Encinal on Friday then took down MCAL foe Terra Linda in Saturday's semifinal.

Reichley scored 20 goals for MA, followed by Hannah Reichley with nine goals and Cece Dickinson with eight. Starrett had 41 saves in four games, including a staggering 22 in the final. Brooke Bent and Elle Parisi both had seven steals for MA.

Girls volleyball

Marin Catholic found itself in a battle against Tam on Friday night, winning the last two sets en route to a 25-15, 20-25, 25-20, 2522 victory.

Krystal Rose Huff led the way for MC with 15 kills and Mia Clayton added 12. Savannah Ellison led four Wildcats with double-digit digs with 19, along with Izzy Adam (11), Sierra Ellison (11) and Rania Brody (10).

The Wildcats (15-4, 3-1 MCAL) sit in third place at the halfway point of the season, one game ahead of Tam (17-4, 3-2). MC also holds the head-to-head tiebreaker.

• Reese Murphy had nine kills and two blocks for Tam. Grace Widdifield also had nine kills. Malia Parsons was the team leader with 15 digs and Emmeline Sandgren led the way with 31 assists.

• Olivia Brewster had 13 kills and five blocks to lift Terra Linda to a three-set win over crosstown rival San Rafael on Friday. Josie Campo had a strong all-around game with seven kills, 14 digs and three aces for TL (13-11, 1-3). Tess Hazelrigg had a team-best 20 digs and Collette Treewater added seven kills. The Bulldogs were led by Elsa Kehoe's 11 kills and 18 digs. Olivia Dugan (11 digs), Jane Stanley (14 assists, six digs) and Audrey Merk (nine digs, three kills) also had good games.

• San Marin got 10 kills apiece from Paige Brumley and Brianna Nottingham to claim a 25-14, 26-24, 23-25, 25-13 win against cross-town rival Novato. Brumley also had nine digs for the Mustangs (18-11, 3-2). Sylvia Tuerke had eight kills and four aces, Alison Hoberg

had six kills and Gabi Ginocchio had 27 assists and five aces.

Kayla Saxon had nine kills and two blocks to lift Marin Academy to a 25-11, 25-18, 25-22 win against Lick-Wilmerding. Gracie Felsenthal had five digs and two aces for MA (1212, 6-1 BCL West).

Girls tennis

Ellie Damiani, Georgia Compagno, Lindsay Lotter and Sofia Paletta secured wins at Nos. 1-4 singles, respective­ly, to lead Marin Catholic past Novato 6-1. The Hornets got their win at No. 1 doubles, courtesy of Piper Coffey and Bridget Lawler.

• Clare Zhu, Brooke Bested, Aashna Selvaraj, and Julieta Exberger swept through the top four singles matches to lead San Marin to a 7-0 victory against San Rafael.

• Audrey Gilmor prevailed at No. 1 singles in the most competitiv­e match of the day, a 6-3, 6-4 win over Kylie Lee as Branson swept Terra Linda 7-0. The Bulls also got singles wins from Gaby Steele, Simone Schachter and Clarissa Chong.

• Lina Stuart and Maria-Jose Stuart took the top two singles matches as Tam took down Archie Williams 7-0. The Redtailed Hawks also got singles victories from Annika Hakes and Louise McGinness.

Field hockey

Marin Catholic posted a 6-0 win against Convent of the Sacred Heart on Friday. The Wildcats travel to Larkspur on Wednesday for a key game against Redwood.

Men's soccer

Dominican University netted a late equalizer in a 1-1 home tie against Chaminade on Saturday. The Silverswor­ds jumped ahead in the seventh minute despite registerin­g just two shots — one on target — for the game. The Penguins (4-3-2, 2-0-1 PacWest) had 27 shots with 13 coming on target and finally scored courtesy of Cole Parker in the 83rd minute.

Women's soccer

Gabrielle Wampler scored on a penalty kick in the 85th minute but the Penguins were unable to complete the comeback in a 2-1 home loss to Chaminade. The Silverswor­ds scored their second goal in the 84th minute, leaving the Penguins (3-6-1, 0-2-1) precious little time to climb back into the game.
