Waters lifts San Diego State to victory over No. 15 Gonzaga

SPOKANE, WASH. >> Reese Waters scored 15 of his 22 points in the second half, Jaedon LeDee added 20 points, and San Diego State used a big second half to beat No. 15 Gonzaga 84-74 on Friday night.

The Aztecs (11-2) won their fourth straight and handed Gonzaga (9-4) its first non-conference loss on its home floor since falling to UCLA on Dec. 12, 2015. It was just the third home loss overall for the Zags since the start of the 2017 season.

Marin City native Darrion Trammell added a season-high 17 points, including 15 in the first half.

Players and coaches for fourth-seeded Alabama and No. 1 Michigan have indicated in the lead up to their Rose Bowl matchup on Monday that players had been instructed to avoid watching film using the Catapult Sports app on their mobile devices because of security concerns.

Catapult said in a statement it was aware of the ongoing investigat­ion of alleged

unauthoriz­ed access to college football video footage.

Gil de Ferran, the 2003 Indianapol­is 500 winner and holder of the closed-course land speed record, died while racing with his son at The Concourse Club in Florida, multiple former colleagues confirmed to The Associated Press. He was 56.

Fellow Brazilian driver Tony Kanaan said de Ferran was with his son, Luke, at the private course in

Opa-Locka, Florida, when he pulled over and said he wasn't feeling well. Kanaan said de Ferran apparently suffered a heart attack and could not be revived.

GIOLITO AGREES TO 2-YEAR CONTRACT WITH RED SOX >>

The Boston Red Sox added Lucas Giolito to their rotation, agreeing to a $38.5 million, two-year contract with the right-hander.

The 29-year-old Giolito can opt out of the deal after the 2024 season. If he opts out, the contract would be worth $19 million.

Giolito struggled to an 8-15 record with a 4.88 ERA this year for the Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels and Cleveland Guardians.
