Trio of MCAL teams improve to 2-0-0

Branson, Tam and Marin Catholic all picked up victories on Monday to secure a 2-0-0 start to their girls soccer league campaigns this season.

The early contenders for MCAL Player of the Year continued to make their cases as Tam's Maren Jones netted her fourth league goal of the season and Branson's Ally Hsieh scored her second and third goals.

Jones scored an unassisted goal as Tam (5-3-4, 2-0-0 MCAL) picked up a 2-0 victory against Terra

Linda (5-2-1, 1-1-0). Katie Lowenstein opened the scoring for the Red-tailed Hawks off an assist from Sabine Szylko.

Hsieh bookended a flurry of three Branson goals in five minutes as the Bulls (9-0-2, 2-0-0) secured a 4-0 win against Archie Williams (2-4-2, 0-20). Hsieh scored in the 21st minute off an assist from Whitney Collet. Branson went up 2-0 in the 23rd minute when Collet scored an unassisted goal. Hsieh netted again in the 25th minute, assisted by Catrin Howell.

Sadie Saavedra capped the scoring for Branson in second-half stoppage time off Collet's second assist of the game.

Marin Catholic (6-1-1, 2-0-0) got a second consecutiv­e clean sheet — and seventh of the season — from goalie Finn Seymore in a 3-0 victory against San Marin (3-4-1, 0-2-0).

Lana Whilborg, Briana Frade and Ava Korich scored for MC, off assists from Korich, Lexi Ferguson and Sloane Carey, respective­ly.

MC's center-back pairing of Carolina McCarty and Nellie Sell, plus midfielder Kate Batdorf, were plus the standouts according to coach Isaiah Schwerin.

Redwood (8-3-0, 1-1-0) played under the lights at San Rafael (3-2-3, 0-1-0) in the final game of the night, getting two goals from Sarah Farese en route to a 4-0 victory.

Dakota Ledesma opened the scoring with an unassisted goal then assisted both of Farese's goals as the Giants went in front 3-0. Ava Bough scored the final goal on an assist from Miranda Wabl.
