Take a trip to Voyage

- By Leanne Battelle

If you've had the pleasure of taking in the wall of artistically displayed wines and the room's warm colors, geometric shapes, reading nook and curated vinyl record selection at Souvenir bottle shop in downtown San Anselmo, it's likely you've had the desire to cork your purchase and settle in for glass or two within the vibe-driven space.

Now, just such a sit-down experience can be fulfilled at Voyage, a wine and low-proof cocktail bar and shareable plates venue that the team opened last month in the iconic Cheda Building just down the street. San Rafael residents David and Margaret Ruiz, owners of Stillwater restaurant in Fairfax, are operating it with Dylan Jones and Matty Conway.

Stillwater's chef Cameron Meyers has created a hearty grazing menu that's remarkably inventive and sophisticated given the lack of a traditional kitchen.

Snacks include Bohemian Creamery Holy Moly mild goat cheese with seasonal preserves; Journeyman Meat Co. coppa and soppressata with toast; Japanese soft-boiled egg with bottarga and sesame crunch; Stemple Creek Ranch steak tartare with Valley Ford Cheese Co. Estero Gold; and local trout served two ways (smoked and brined) with farmers cheese, curtido and toast.

Stretch the menu into a fuller meal with a roast pork, provolone and broccoli rabe sandwich, or one with Caggiano Co. bratwurst, celery root-onion cream sauce and kohlrabi slaw, and add on a Star Route Farms little gem salad with a ramen egg and miso Caesar dressing.

The menu will evolve in time, and the plan is to eventually open for lunch.
