Archie Williams nets first league win

Chala Rosenthal and Willy Finley found the back of the net on a low-scoring afternoon around the MCAL, leading the Archie Williams High boys soccer team to a 2-0 win against Branson on Tuesday.

Cy Stock provided an assist for the Peregrine Falcons (4-2-3, 1-0-1 MCAL). Aidan Dunn had the shutout against Branson (4-52, 0-2-0).

• The other two afternoon games in the MCAL were both scoreless ties. Tam (5-2-1, 1-0-1) traveled to Terra Linda (2-3-1, 1-0-1) in a rematch of last year's MCAL championsh­ip game. Marin Catholic (1-64, 0-0-2) secured its second point of the young season at home against San Marin (8-2-1, 0-1-1).

• Redwood capped the Tuesday slate with a 2-1 road win at San Rafael. The Giants (7-2-0, 2-00) took sole possession of first place after scoring twice in the second half on goals by Ensio Sardans and Evan White to take a 2-0 lead. Masa Fujita and Edison Diaz provided the assists. San Rafael (4-5-1, 0-10) pulled one back in the 80th minute when Torin Pilla scored off an assist by Angel Hidalgo.

• Cal-bound striker Malcolm Zalayet scored three more goals as Marin Academy rolled past Bay Counties League rival University 4-0 on Tuesday. Diego Felix also found the back of the net for MA (7-3-0, 2-0-0 BCL West). Zalayet pushed his scoring tally for the season to 19 goals in 10 games. Ronan Mackay, Sophian Lovato, Diego Doyle and Tristan Schauble all had assists.

Boys basketball

Branson's Jase Butler was named as one of the nominees for the 2024 McDonald's All American Game in Houston this

April. Butler, a University of Illinois commit, has led Branson to an 11-5 record going into Tuesday against one of the toughest preseason schedules in the state.

Girls basketball

Izzy McFadden scored 19 points and Alyssa Spagnuolo added 10 as Marin Catholic rolled to a 62-25 road win at San Marin on Tuesday. Madie Dayton added seven points for MC (8-9, 2-0).
