Leafs' Matthews and Marner shine in NHL All-Star 3-on-3

TORONTO >> Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner of the Maple Leafs shined in the NHL All-Star 3-on-3 tournament on home ice in Toronto on Saturday.

Matthews scored twice, including the game-winner, and had an assist and Marner added a goal to beat reigning MVP Connor McDavid's team 7-4 in the final. Members of Team Matthews split $1 million as the reward for winning the final event of a newlook All-Star Weekend, which featured the return of the popular player draft and a redesigned skills competitio­n.

Toronto's face of the franchise, Matthews was named All-Star MVP surrounded by thousands of cheering Leafs fans. Matthews, Marner and fellow Leafs players William Nylander and Morgan Rielly were teammates again at All-Star Weekend.

HAMLIN WINS EXHIBITION CLASH AT THE COLISEUM >> Denny Hamlin won the Clash at the Coliseum exhibition that NASCAR hurried into a one-day show to avoid a dangerous “Pineapple Express” storm headed toward California.

Hamlin, in a Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, started from the pole and led 59 of the 151 laps. But his teammate Ty Gibbs controlled a large portion of the race until a late caution set up a restart with 10 laps remaining.

Hamlin got the lead on the restart and was about to win until Gibbs crashed on the last lap to send the race into overtime. Hamlin then got a jump on reigning NASCAR champion

KINGSBURY WITHDRAWS NAME FROM RAIDERS JOB >>

Former Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury isn't going to Las Vegas to become the Raiders offensive coordinato­r after all, a person informed of the decision told The Associated Press on Saturday.

Kingsbury had agreed to join new coach Antonio Pierce's staff on Thursday, but he couldn't reach a deal with the Raiders, so he told the team he's pursuing other options, the person said.

Shalane Flanagan in 2012 in Houston. Emily Sisson, the U.S. marathon record holder, was second and Dakotah Lindwurm surged into third to make Team USA for Paris.

On the men's side, training partners and good friends Conner Mantz and Clayton Young finished 1-2 to qualify for Paris.
