Branson soccer hangs on in narrow win

- College softball

Catrin Howell scored the first goal and assisted on the next two as Branson held off University 3-2 in Saturday's girls soccer action. Howell gave the Bulls (14-2-4) a 1-0 lead going into the half off an assist by Whitney Collet. Howell then set up Ally Hsieh for a pair of secondhalf goals to make it 2-0 and 3-1, respective­ly. University scored in stoppage time for the final margin. Branson is scheduled to host Marin Catholic in a MCAL semifinal match on Wednesday.

Marin Academy closed out the regular season with a 2-0 win over Lick-Wilmerding on Thursday. The No. 2 Wildcats (9-5-1, 8-2-0 BCL West) are set to face No. 3 Urban in a BCL West semifinal at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Beach Chalet

#2 in San Francisco.

Boys soccer

River Jones scored off an assist by Diego Doyle as Marin Academy finished out the regular season with a 1-1 tie against Lick-Wilmerding on Friday. The top-seeded Wildcats (14-2-4, 9-0-1) host a BCL West semifinal at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Girls basketball

San Domenico defeated Marin Academy, 57-23, Friday night as Carly Amborn scored a career-high 39 points. San Domenico (10-0) is the top seed for the BCL playoffs. Marin Academy (37) will visit Urban on Monday for a play-in game.

Boys basketball

San Domenico defeated Marin Academy, 68-62, in a hard-fought showdown Friday night. Gavin Early's 17 points and 11 rebounds set the pace for the Panthers (15-8, 5-4 BCL), while Drew Morehouse and Kris Jakstas each chipped in 13 points and canned three 3-pointers each. San Domenico's Chidera Onyeukwu had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. San Domenico finished the regular season tied with Urban for third place.

Marin Academy (6-19, 0-10) hit 12 3-pointers during the game.

College baseball

College of Marin was swept in a doublehead­er against host College of the Sequoias. The Mariners (42) lost the opener 10-5, despite getting a grand slam from Chris Delangis. Marin lost the second game, 8-7, in a tight battle. Jacob Anteneh's two-run single in the top of the ninth tied the game, 7-7, but Sequoias scored an unearned run in the bottom of the inning to win the game.

Dominican University split a pair of games on the final day of the Concordia Kickoff Classic in Carson. The Penguins (1-2) won the early game, 5-4, over Cal State Dominguez Hills. Alicia Garcia delivered a threerun home run, while Alyssa Rue went 4-for-7 on the day with two runs scored and a double for the Penguins. Shelby Keltner earned the victory in the first game throwing 4 2/3 innings in relief while striking out two. Dominican lost the second game, 3-2, in eight innings to Northwest Nazarene.
