Marin Academy girls win play-in game

Amelia Thomas had a strong all-around game as the Marin Academy girls basketball team won its play-in game against Urban on Monday night, qualifying for the Bay Counties League West playoffs in the process.

Thomas scored 10 points, had seven rebounds and five steals as the Wildcats clamped down defensivel­y. The victory sets up an allMarin semifinal against San Domenico on Thursday night.

MA surged to a 19-6 lead against Urban but surrendere­d an 8-0 run to let the Blues back into the game. Navah Higuera-Bailey hit a big 3-pointer just before the half to push MA's advantage to 22-14.

Higuera-Bailey was second on the team in scoring with nine points. MA (1410) split the regular-season series with Urban, winning 44-34 on Jan. 23 then losing 26-25 on Jan. 31.

MA went 0-2 against

San Domenico this season. The Panthers (17-8) are the top seed and went 10-0 in league.

Branson advances

After a defensive first half, Branson was able to find an offensive rhythm en route to a 41-32 win in the MCAL play-in game at Archie Williams on Monday night.

Avery Myerberg and Paige Macy led the way with 14 points apiece for Branson. Lila Peterson hit a trio of 3-pointers en route to a 13-point night for Archie Williams.

The Bulls and Peregrine Falcons were locked in a 10-10 tie at the break. The Bulls (11-14) avenged a 4542 league loss to Archie Williams (10-17).

The result sends Branson into an MCAL semifinal match at Marin Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday night. The two schools will also square off in a boys semifinal at Terra Linda High at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
