Vote yes on Measure A for Tam District high schools

- — Tara Taupier, Novato

Students are at the center of my job. With a 22-year history as an educator in the Tamalpais Union High School District (currently as the district superintendent), I am honored to serve our community.

My journey began at Redwood High School in 2002, where I immediately recognized the remarkable support from the community. It was channeled through parent, teacher and student associations; foundations; boosters and various student and school support organizations, along with support for local tax measures. We are grateful for the community’s commitment to public education. We don’t take it for granted.

In the Tam District, we advocate that every student has the right to a clean and safe learning environment. We believe our community shares this vision.

A conducive learning space, in our perspective, involves appropriately sized classrooms equipped with modern technology, updated heating and cooling systems, and designated areas for lunch and socializing with peers.

Much has changed in education over the past 20 years. We gained significant insights during that time. Safety measures that came with the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the impacts of extremely poor air quality caused by nearby wildfires, are recent examples.

During that time, we learned how essential our school buildings are to ensuring that each child has safe and continuous in-person educational opportunities. We learned that schools are much more than learning institutes. They serve as community hubs providing essential services.

These experiences have further shaped our commitment to providing a secure and optimal educational environment for all students. Measure A on the March 5 ballot will provide funding for the district to make the necessary updates to our facilities.
