On April 14, 2023, Xiaoru Hoytt, beloved mother, wife, friend, and passionate explorer of the world, passed away peacefully with her son, Chou, by her side.

Xiaoru’s spirit filled every room she entered and made an impact on everyone she met. She loved throwing parties, sending surprise care packages, and adventuring to every corner of the globe. She thrived on connection and relationships. Everyone felt at home around her.

Born in Mudanjiang, China, during the Cultural Revolution, Xiaoru developed a fierce determination not only to survive but to thrive. Her unwavering spirit enabled her to help her family navigate difficult times and gave both her the ability to live life on her terms. Her early struggle fueled her love for nature, traveling, creating vibrant events, and deep spirituality. Her love of life drew others in, most notably her late husband, Jerry Hoytt, who adored her and her son with Yuan Lijiang.

Throughout her life, Xiaoru cultivated a deep sense of spirituality, finding peace and balance through meditation. Her spiritual journey gave her a sense of serenity that she carried with her and spread to those around her. Her spiritual guidance and unwavering support served as a beacon, giving her a beloved community and leaving a lasting legacy of love and compassion.

As we celebrate Xiaoru’s incredible life journey in the days and years to come, may we hold her memory close by getting out into nature, exploring the world, opening our doors to others, and spreading compassion and peace.

The family kindly requests that donations be made in Xiaoru's memory to a charity or organization dedicated to preserving nature or promoting environmental conservation.
