Marin teams learn their fates

Branson boys make Open Division; girls soccer teams earn high seeds

The release of the NorCal playoff brackets on Sunday saw the Branson School boys basketball team make the Open Division, girls basketball teams given a tough road, and girls soccer teams potentiall­y set up for title runs.

Branson's 69-66 victory over San Ramon Valley on Saturday was enough to see the Bulls make more history as the first Marin basketball team to qualify for the NorCal Open playoffs.

Fresh off three section title wins on Friday night, the county's girls basketball teams face a tough road in NorCals with Marin Catholic drawing a No. 10 seed, Redwood getting a No. 12 seed, and San Domenico selected as a No. 15 seed.

Both girls soccer teams will stay in the county with Tam securing a No. 2 seed and Marin Catholic snagging the county's lone No. 1 seed.

Boys basketball

The Bulls (23-7) were the last team in as the No. 6 seed in the Open and as such travel to face No. 3 Clovis

North (27-6) in Fresno on Wednesday night. The Broncos have won four consecutiv­e games, including a 69-60 win over 2023 NorCal champion St. Joseph on Saturday.

Clovis North's Tounde Yessoufou scored 26 points in that game and is averaging more than 33 points per game this season. Yessoufou, a fivestar recruit and one of the top players in the country as a junior, is averaging 29.2 points per game during his career.

San Domenico also qualified for NorCals and drew the most favorable position of any Marin basketball team as the No. 2 seed in the D-V bracket.
