Cal men get steamrolle­d by Carlson, Utah in setback

Branden Carlson scored 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Utah in an 88-59 rout of California in Salt Lake City on Saturday night.

Carlson was 12-of17 shooting, made four 3-pointers and blocked four shots. Deivon Smith and Keba Keita also had double-doubles for Utah (18-11, 9-9 Pac-12), which has won three of its last four games. Smith scored 18 points to go with 10 assists, while Keita had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Gabe Madsen chipped in four 3s and finished with 17 points.

Jalen Cone scored 19 points and made four 3-pointers for Cal (13-17, 9-10), which shot 34% (21 of 61) and was outrebound­ed 47-29. Fardaws Aimaq added 15 points.

Cal, which has lost two straight, plays at Stanford on Thursday in a Pac-12 regular-season finale. MARSHALL, TILLY LEAD SANTA CLARA PAST USF >> Carlos Marshall Jr. and Christoph Tilly scored 16 points apiece to help Santa Clara defeat San Francisco 69-62 on Saturday night.

Marshall had eight rebounds and Tilly grabbed seven for the Broncos (1912, 10-6 West Coast Conference).

Adama Bal totaled 10 points and six boards.

Ryan Beasley finished with 18 points, four steals and two blocks for the Dons (22-9, 11-5).

Dedan Thomas Jr. had 18 points in UNLV's 68-50 win against San Jose State on Saturday night.

Luis Rodriguez scored 15 points and added nine rebounds for the Rebels (1810, 11-5 Mountain West Conference).

The Spartans (9-21, 2-15) were led in scoring by Alvaro Cardenas Torre, who finished with 17 points. Trey Anderson added nine points, six rebounds and

four assists for San Jose.

Sophomore star Tess Heal poured in a school record-tying 40 points while leading the Broncos (24-7, 12-4 West Coast Conference) to an 85-77 victory over Pacific in Stockton Saturday night.

Heal's 40-point night tied the Santa Clara record held by Nici Gilday, who scored 40 against Loyola Marymount 10 years ago last week.

Olivia Pollerd scored 17 for the Broncos, who finished the regular season in second place in the WCC.
