Incumbent Rodoni leads; runoff likely in District 2

- By Richard Halstead rhalstead@marinij.com

Two seats on Marin County's Board of Supervisors were up for grabs in the March 5 presidential primary election.

In the race to determine who will replace retiring supervisor Katie Rice in District 2, San Anselmo City Councilman Brian Colbert was in first place with over 42% of the vote when 5,220 vote-by-mail ballots cast early had been counted Tuesday. The ballots counted included about 67% of precincts.

Heather McPhail Sridharan, a former Kentfield School District trustee, was in second place with nearly 26%. Larkspur City Councilman Gabe Paulson was in third place with about 18% of the vote, and Ryan O'Neil, a former Fairfax councilman,

was in fourth place with nearly 14%. A fifth candidate, Sam Friedlander, received a single vote.

If one of these four candidates secures over 50% of

the vote in this election, that person will be declared the winner. Otherwise, the top two vote-getters will compete in a runoff in the Nov. 7 election.

In the other race for the District 4 seat on the Board of Supervisors, incumbent Dennis Rodoni had a commanding lead when early ballots were counted. Rodoni had over 77% of the vote while his challenger, Francis Drouillard, an engineer and former member of the Marin County Republican Central Committee, had about 23%.

Rice endorsed Colbert when he announced his candidacy June 4. Colbert is the first African American in the county's history to serve on a municipal council.

Colbert was supportive of Rice's efforts to implement a San Anselmo Flood Risk Reduction Project that bogged down due to neighborhood opposition to the construction of flood water detention basins. Measure F on
