Source: Jets acquire 2-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Reddick from Eagles

-

The New York Jets have acquired two-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Haason Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles for a conditional third-round pick in 2026, a person with knowledge of the trade told The Associated Press on Friday.

The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the pick would become a second-rounder if Reddick plays 67.5% of the defensive snaps and gets 10 sacks in 2024.

Reddick, a first-round pick by Arizona in 2017, has recorded double-digit sacks in four straight seasons, including 27 over the past two years with the Eagles.

He's entering the final year of a $45 million, three-year contract and was given permission by the Eagles to seek a trade earlier in the offseason.

Raheem Mostert agreed to a contract extension with the Dolphins that will keep the running back in Miami through the 2025 season, his agent, Brett Tessler, announced.

Mostert, 31, is coming off the best season of his nine-year NFL career, making his first Pro Bowl after rushing for a careerhigh 1,012 yards with a Dolphins franchise record 21 total touchdowns, three more than receiver Mark Clayton in 1984.

His new contract is worth up to $9.075 million, NFL Network reported.

FINAU MATCHES HIS CAREER LOW AT HOUSTON OPEN >> Tony Finau matched his career low on the PGA Tour with an 8-under 62, taking a two-shot lead into the weekend with hopes of winning back-to-back — 16 months apart — in the Houston Open.

Scottie Scheffler saw his streak of 28 rounds under par end with a 22-inch miss on his final hole. The threeputt double bogey from 6 feet gave him an even-par 70, though he was only four behind in his bid for a third straight PGA Tour victory.

Finau was at 9-under 131.

Alejandro Tosti, a PGA Tour rookie from Argentina, had a 67 and was two shots behind. Thomas Detry of Belgium shot 64 and was three behind.

A sore throat and runny nose lowered Hannah Green's expectations for the second round of the LPGA Tour Ford Championship. She sure felt a lot better after a career-best round on a day full of low scoring.

Green birdied the final six holes for an 11-under 61, giving her a one-shot lead going into the weekend.

Increased wind did little to slow the low scoring in the inaugural event at Seville Golf and Country Club, with 20 players shooting 67 or better and a cut line of 5 under — tied for lowest in LPGA history.

Green set the standard at 14-under 130 after making 11 birdies, tied for second-most ever behind Annika Sorenstam's 13 during her historic 59 in 2001. Sarah Schmezel had a bogey-free 63 to match Peiyun Chien (65) at 13 under.

Azahara Munoz (68) and Hyo Joo Kim (67) were 12 under.

MLB'S PERCENTAGE OF INTERNATIONAL-BORN PLAYERS DROPS SLIGHTLY >> The percentage of Major League Baseball players born outside the 50 states dipped slightly to 27.8%, its lowest level since 2016.

There were 264 players from 19 nations and territories outside of the 50 states among 949 players on opening day active rosters and injured, restricted and inactive lists, the commissioner's office said.

The percentage was down from 28.5% last year and the lowest since 27.5% in 2016. It has remained in the 26-29.8% range since 2002, peaking in 2017.

The Dominican Republic led countries outside the U.S. with 108 players, its second-highest behind 110 in 2020.

The New York Yankees acquired right-hander JT Brubaker and international bonus pool allotment from the Pittsburgh Pirates for a player to be named.

Brubaker, Pittsburgh's opening-day starter in 2022, missed last season after Tommy John surgery on April 12 with Dr. Keith Meister. Brubaker agreed in January to a one-year deal for $2,275,000 and was put on the 60-day injured list on Feb. 19.

Brubaker, 30, went 3-12 with a 4.69 ERA in 28 appearances with the Pirates in 2022.

SINNER OVERWHELMS MEDVEDEV AT MIAMI OPEN >> Jannik Sinner is starting to dominate. He overwhelmed third-seeded Daniil Medvedev 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals of the Miami Open.

The second-seeded Sinner, rock-solid with his firecracker forehand, became the first man to reach backto-back Miami Open finals since John Isner (20182019). In last year's Miami final, Medvedev prevailed over Sinner at Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins.

This time, Medvedev's three games tied his career low for wins in a match.

Sinner will play the winner of the second semifinal between No. 4 seed Alexander Zverev and 11th-seeded Grigor Dimitrov.

The women's final is set for Saturday when American Danielle Collins faces No. 4 seed Elena Rybakina.

MESSI COULD RETURN FOR CHAMPION'S CUP QUARTERFINAL >> Lionel Messi's hamstring injury will keep him sidelined for Inter Miami's home game against New York City FC on Saturday, but he could return for the CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinal first leg against Mexico's Monterrey on April 3.

After missing Saturday, Messi will have played in nine of 19 MLS matches since joining Miami last summer.

Messi has not played for Miami since March 13, when he left a 3-1 win over Nashville just a few minutes into the second half because of discomfort in his right hamstring.

New England Revolution coach Caleb Porter was fined by Major League Soccer for criticizing the replacement officials who worked his team's games while the unionized referees and assistants were locked out.

MLS did not announce the amount of the fine.

New England has the worst record in the 29-team league with four losses and one draw.
