Jill Biden deserves another term as first lady

-

When casting a vote to elect the president of the United States, let's remember that there will be a team of two people occupying the White House — the elected president and their spouse.

These “first partners” (only women to date) have a unique opportunity to have a positive impact on our society. You may recall that former First Lady Melania Trump appeared to make it known, from the wording on a jacket she wore to an official event, that she “really doesn't care.” Fortunately, most other first ladies have cared. Jill Biden is one of them.

A published author and college professor, she has continued teaching college students because that is her calling. Biden's doctoral dissertation focused on achieving retention at community colleges — one of our nation's most affordable and available ways to earn a two-year degree or certificate in a high-paying trade. She cares.

As first lady, she founded the Biden Breast Health Initiative to support her husband's commitment to finding cures for cancer. As someone who has been treated for breast cancer, I'm grateful for her initiative. She cares.

While serving as “second lady” when her husband was vice president during the Obama administration, she and then First Lady Michelle Obama (another exemplary public servant), formed Joining Forces to support the families of military veterans for some of our often-forgotten heroes. They care.

Please join me and engage friends. In November, we have a chance to continue to be proud of a first lady who cares — Jill Biden.
