Scheffler finishes off another win to extend dominant run

-

Masters champion Scottie Scheffler winning the RBC Heritage on Monday morning was inevitable. It felt that way at the start of the week, too.

Scheffler had a five-shot lead and three holes to play in the rain-delayed tournament. He made a meaningless bogey on the final hole for a 3-under 68 and a three-shot victory over Sahith Theegala at Harbour Town.

He won for the fourth time in his last five starts and became the first player since Bernhard Langer in 1985 to win the week after capturing the Masters green jacket.

Now he has a plaid jacket from the RBC Heritage, extending a dominant run not seen on the PGA Tour since the peak years of Tiger Woods.

The final round was stopped for 2 1/2 hours because of storms. By then, Scheffler had taken command as he so often does with sublime shotmaking.

JUDGE ORDERS FLORIDA STATE AND ACC TO MEDIATION IN LATEST LEGAL ROUND >>

A Tallahassee judge has ordered Florida State and the Atlantic Coast Conference to enter mediation in hopes of settling a high-profile lawsuit that could dramatically impact the future of the league.

Judge John C. Cooper technically approved the ACC's motion to dismiss but gave FSU seven days to amend its complaint because the university needs more specificity regarding key facts in a case he said “is worth up to half a billion dollars.” The conference would have 20 days to respond afterward, and another hearing would be set.

Cooper ordered the sides

to begin mediation within 120 days. But a mediator cannot force an agreement, so the case could end up back in court.

NCAA RATIFIES IMMEDIATE ELIGIBILITY FOR ATHLETES >> NCAA athletes are now eligible to play immediately no matter how many times they transfer — as long as they meet academic requirements — after the association fast-tracked legislation to fall in line with a recent court order.

The Division I Board of Directors formally ratified the change to the transfer rule Monday and approved a tweak that allows schools to identify name, image and likeness opportunities and facilitate deals between athletes and third parties.

Athletes are not obligated to accept assistance

from the school and must maintain authority over the terms in their NIL agreements. Beginning Aug. 1, member schools will be permitted to increase NIL-related support only for athletes who disclose their NIL arrangements.
