IN­TER­NA­TIONAL BILL­FISH TOUR­NA­MENT OF CLUB NAUTICO DE SAN JUAN De­cem­ber 7-10, Puerto Rico

The 43-foot Cabo Sea Dream won the 64th an­nual In­ter­na­tional Bill­fish Tour­na­ment of Club Nautico de San Juan with three blue mar­lin re­leases. All three were caught on 20-poundtest line in a spe­cial light-tackle edi­tion of the pres­ti­gious tour­na­ment. The boat was cap­tained by Je­sus Vela. Com­ing in se­cond place was 42-foot Blue­print. The team from Panama Jack, a 50-foot Vik­ing, fin­ished third. In two days, 20 bill­fish were re­leased, in­clud­ing five blue mar­lin. The tour­na­ment’s orig­i­nal dates were can­celed due to Hur­ri­cane Maria.

IS­LAM­ORADA SAIL­FISH TOUR­NA­MENT De­cem­ber 1-3, Is­lam­orada, Flor­ida

The team from Yabba Dabba Doo won the Is­lam­orada Sail­fish Tour­na­ment with a re­lease in the fi­nal min­utes. The team’s 14th re­lease came with 15 min­utes left and edged sec­ond­place Re­lent­less. The Kalex team — fish­ing from its sub­sti­tute boat, Kelly Dawn — fin­ished third, with 12 re­leases. The fleet re­leased 137 sail­fish in three days.

IWFA GU­ATEMALA BILL­FISH TOUR­NA­MENT Novem­ber 9-11, Gu­atemala

Ser­ena Wil­son was the top an­gler in the an­nual In­ter­na­tional Women’s Fish­ing As­so­ci­a­tion Gu­atemala Bill­fish Tour­na­ment. She re­leased 19 sail­fish dur­ing the two-day tour­na­ment, which in­cluded 228 sail­fish re­leases. Fran McK­elvey re­leased 14 sail­fish and one blue mar­lin for a se­cond-place fin­ish. Con­nie O’Day took third place, with a to­tal of 15 sail­fish re­leases. First­place team hon­ors went to Jill Gad­dis, Suzie Villere, Wil­son and Donna Krehling. The se­cond-place team was Diane Locke, Ale­dia Tush, Linda No­lasco and Jing Torn, while Ellen Mathews, McK­elvey, Mary Peachin and Kathy Gillen won third place.
