ISLAMORADA SAILFISH TOURNAMENT December 5-8, 2019 Islamorada, Florida
Caribsea’s Capt. KC Spaulding became the youngest captain in tournament history to win the event, with a total of 19 sailfish releases. Contagious placed second with 16, and Challenger finished third with 12. The fleet released 141 sails from 154 reported hookups.
LENNY SCHELIN JR. MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT December 27, 2019-January 4, 2020 Fort Pierce, Florida
Capt. Mike Brady and his Cowpoke team won the billfish division on time with five sailfish releases, Capt. Glenn Cameron’s Floridian team took the second-place spot, also with five sails, and Marlin Hunter placed third with three sailfish releases. All tournament proceeds and donations for this fundraiser benefited glioblastoma research in honor of Schelin, a professional deckhand who lost his battle with the aggressive brain cancer at the age of 33 in 2018.
FISH FOR HOLLY SAILFISH TOURNAMENT January 4, 2020 Islamorada, Florida
Forty-eight teams registered to compete in the name of the Holly Given and her legacy, the Holly Given Fund. The fund was created in the young woman’s memory, and is committed to assisting those in the Florida Keys community who need assistance in education, business and professional training. Three of the competing teams produced six sailfish releases each to finish on time for 600 points, placing first, second and third, respectively: Kalex, Main Attraction and Olympic Gold.
