Bread of Life

-

“Change is inevitable. Growth is optional.” Author John Maxwell couldn’t have said it better. Bread of Life Community Food Pantry has undoubtedly experienced change over the years. Why does Bread of Life exist? To help feed the people who need it plain and simple.

Many families in Marshall County struggle with hunger and food insecurity, and a large percentage of these families have children under 12 years old. Inconsistent nutrition can affect growth and development causing lifelong consequences. There are a lot of complicated problems in the world, but this one has a simple answer: These humans need food.

After originally opening in a small church in 1995, the pantry moved into a storefront in downtown Plymouth and continued to expand. In 2007 the pantry became a 501(c)(3) organization.

In 2017, the pantry moved to its current location and is in the process of purchasing the building. The pantry board members made the decision to continue trusting God to provide the food and finances necessary to remain steadfast in serving the hungry in Marshall County.

Since September is Hunger Awareness Month, Bread of Life has started an annual trivia night fundraising event. They have used this event to raise awareness through local radio stations and newspapers, and they even gained the support of many local businesses! Other community events for the pantry include the Plymouth Farmers Market, Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, Plymouth Business Connections, and other various events. Throughout the years, Bread of Life has had the opportunity to partner with area schools, colleges and other non-profit organizations.

God is faithful and continues to provide faithful supporters for Bread of Life which include local churches, individuals and local businesses for which they are very thankful. The pantry is all volunteer-led and does not have any paid staff. The volunteers work hard to provide for clients every day—lifting, moving, cleaning, talking, listening, praying, etc. because God has called them to be His hands and feet to the residents of Marshall County, Indiana.

How can you help support Bread of Life Community Food Pantry? Pray for the hungry and homeless in the community, pray for consistent sources of food and monetary donations, pray for the volunteers as they serve. Donate food items and hygiene products. Give financially. Be generous with your time and volunteer to serve.
