- By: Anita Goodan

Nestled in the heart of downtown Plymouth is the hub of Marshall County news, weather, sports and community information, accompanied by the “Classic Hits of the 70s and 80s.”

WYMR MAX 98.3 FM Radio, at 215 N. Michigan Street, has all listeners up-to-date on current community events and what local and regional companies have to offer with our loyal advertisers.

“It continues to be a great station for residents not only in Marshall County but surrounding areas who listen and learn about what’s happening when they come to visit,” said General Manager Lenny Dessauer. “We’ve all worked hard to grow since opening our doors in 2015 and we will continue to offer a great product for our listeners.”

MAX 98.3 FM is in its sixth year of operation having opened in February 2015. The main license is in Culver, Indiana with service to all of Marshall County. The original location was on Jefferson Street by The Coffee Lodge in Plymouth, but moved to its current location on Michigan Street in Plymouth in 2017. The station features state-ofthe-art equipment with a main studio and offices for sales and news.

It is under the management of Kankakee Valley Broadcasting, Inc.

The morning kicks off with Tony “The Boss” Ross with entertainment and sports, along with interviews with guests from all over the county who highlight special events or pertinent information in the area. Ross is a veteran sports broadcaster who travels all over the state to cover a variety of sports (even hockey!) so parents and community members who support local athletes do not miss any action. Lenny Dessauer has the day’s weather throughout the day with hourly newscasts featuring local information from reporters Anita Goodan and Michael Gallenberger. John Tesh gives listeners “Intelligence for Your Life” in the mid-day portion of work week, while Charlie Adams shares words of inspiration to take listeners out of the work day. Sheena Pearson, Bridget Markin and Tony Ross are sales account associates and assist many advertisers with their needs to get the word out about the latest specials and bargains in the area.

Dessauer, a veteran radio personality, added, “It’s a great combination for the day mixed in with classic hits of the 70’s and 80’s. It’s a recent format change which has gathered positive comments from the listeners who enjoy hearing their favorite songs from those eras. Do you want songs from The Eagles? We have that. How about some disco? We have that too. One-hit wonders of the 80s? Sure! It’s a fun blend of music that will certainly keep your work day moving at the office or at home.”

MAX 98.3 FM has a sister station in Knox, Indiana. K99.3 FM WKVI features music from the 80’s, 90’s and today and features news from Starke County, Pulaski County and La Porte County.

“WKVI began in 1969 and we’re happy that Kankakee Valley Broadcasting, Inc. was able to add MAX 98.3 FM to the family to provide a wide range of news and information for a diversity of listeners in a variety of locations,” mentioned Dessauer.

WYMR MAX 98.3 FM has grown in popularity in the last six years, winning The Pilot News Group’s “Best of Marshall County” Readers Choice Awards for favorite radio station four times with the last three awards a consecutive win. The station was also nominated for an Indiana Broadcasters Association Award for Local Impact Reporting in 2020.

Dessauer commented, “It’s great to hear that people listen and like what we do. We like what we do and it shows with the talent we have. Keep it to MAX 98.3 FM because you never know what you’re going to miss.”
