. . .Freeze the Top Tier of the Cake?

Martha Stewart Weddings - - THE PLANNER -

Back in the day, newlyweds kept the top layer of the cake for the christening of their first child, which was anticipated to be within a year or so. (This worked better when wedding desserts were long-lasting fruitcakes.) Today many couples put the top tier in the freezer for their first anniversary, but if you don’t have the space—or you prefer fresh over frozen—ask your baker if she can make you a mini cake in the same flavor for your one-year anniversary.
