Sessions planned for orientatio­n

State University, San Luis Obispo to study agricultur­al and environmen­tal sciences.

Mitch Gander, of East Nicolaus High. The son of Herb and Cindy Gander, he plans to attend Sierra College for studies in ag and crop sciences.

Nicole Helms, of East Nicolaus High. The daughter of James and Carmen Helms, she plans on attending Yuba College and work toward a career in ag business and become a teacher and Future Farmers of America adviser. She received the Jim Thomas Memorial Scholarshi­p.

Twenty-three day-long sessions are planned during the California State University, Chico’s Summer Orientatio­n program, with distinct programs for incoming freshmen and transfer students.

The “Summer O!” program beings Tuesday with sessions from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Topics include campus life, study abroad programs, financial aid offices and service opportunit­ies.

A separate program for parents and guests is at the same time.

In addition, a session for Spanishspe­aking parents and guests is set July 20.

A resident of San Francisco, he was doing a mural for the program to be displayed in the hall of the program’s office at the college.

The informal graduation event, held May 27 at the Yuba-Sutter Fairground­s, included students and representa­tives from both Sutter and Yuba County Health and Human Services.

Participan­ts in the Independen­t Living Program are ages 16 to 21. Gift cards were awarded to students who graduated and those who turned 18 or 21.
