VOLLEYBALL: GEL play resumes on Monday

added a team-high 16 digs and Hannah Williamson finished with 17 assists in the win.

“We struggled a little bit at times, but keeping things together from points 1 to 25 is going to be key for us going forward,” Farrah said. “Since we’re a young team, we want to keep building things for the future and if we can win now while doing so, it’s even better for the program.”

For the Blazers (2-5 overall, 0-1 GEL), the game was not indicative of how they have played at times throughout the early part of the season. First-year coach Tyler Krieger said his team has played better, but wasn’t able to put together a complete match against a tough Marysville squad on the road.

“This wasn’t the team I’ve seen play in several matches this season,” Krieger said. “Our overall record doesn’t reflect how we’ve played. We know we can play better.”

Krieger said his team was able to battle back in the second game, but Marysville’s servers made things difficult for the Blazers when they were attempting a comeback, noting that it was an area they will need to improve going forward.

Asailah Brown led the Blazers with 10 kills. Jenna Carns added five kills and Cassia Ruiz led the team with 10 digs on the night.

“We need to learn how to win those close sets if we want to get more wins,” Krieger said. “I know there will be a lot of close games this season, and hopefully we’ll continue to learn along the way and turn the results around.”

The Marysville junior varsity team also took home the win against the Blazers in two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-23.

The Indians will host Dixon and Lindhurst takes on Mesa Verde on Monday.
